1.  Developing practical abilities:

     Feature practical English courses that are conducive to student internship in local prominent businesses, airports, airliners, and English educational units — courses that prepare students for future employment.     

2.  Expanding world view:

     Provide overseas exchange and learning at prestigious universities in Europe, the United States, Japan, and Korea; and offer overseas internship in international enterprises such as five-star hotels, amusement parks, and ski resorts.   

3.  Providing dual-degree programs:

     Students who have studied at Kainan for two years may apply to the University of Wisconsin for two other years of studying there, and after completing the program they will obtain dual degrees from the two universities. (undergraduate: 2+2; MA 1+1)          

4.  Talents training:  

     Train global-minded talents with professional English-language skills.   

5.  Curriculum planning:

     Special focus on the ability in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation; also focus on small-class and on-schedule teaching for required courses.

6.  Professional development:

           Offer a wide variety of integral practical programs (including applied English courses in teaching, business, tourism, and airline industry) that help students develop their second specialization for future employability.  

7.  Features of teaching:

     24-hour English environment on CNN, language learning at New Yorker Lounge, digitalized language labs, cultural and language exchange with foreign students        

8.  Faculty:

     The Department has the nation’s highest percentage of full-time teachers holding doctoral degrees, each with more than ten years of teaching experience. Among them, the foreign teachers, all with English-teaching professional backgrounds, can furnish students with an immediate environment for English speaking practice and cross-cultural communication.

9 Cross-disciplinary learning programs:

     Apart from credit programs in applied business English, the Department provides sharing credit programs for students to choose from, including those offered by Department of Tourism (training international tour guides), Department of Transportation (training transportation specialists), and by Department of Accounting (training international accounting experts).
